Wittenberg took a 1-0 lead when Lisa Rusch crossed a ball to Amanda Farrell who converted the goal in the 58th minute of play. Denison, who had a number of scoring chances just miss the mark up to this point, would tie the score in the 63rd minute when Sarah Ash (right) corralled a loose ball in the box and knocked it past Tiger keeper, Meghan O'Rourke.
For the next 27 minutes of regulation the two teams would put a handful of shots on-frame but would come up empty on all of them until Medwid ended the contest early in overtime.
Wittenberg outshot Denison 14-7. Five of Denison's seven shots were on-goal while nine of the Tiger's shot attempts challenged DU goalkeeper Liz Gillette who finished with a game-high seven saves. DU attempted four corner kicks to Wittenberg's one and the Tigers led in the foul category 11-6.
Wittenberg, who was ranked 12th entering the match, improves to 17-2-2 overall and receives the NCAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament. The loss drops the 21st ranked Big Red to 13-5-2. They will await word from the NCAA selection committee to see if they will receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
