#7 Denison downs Otterbein in OT Thriller

Sarah AshSarah Ash (right) found the back of the net four minutes into overtime to propel the 7th ranked Denison Big Red past the Otterbein Cardinals, 2-1.

A strong defensive half from both teams kept the score knotted at zero at the break. In the game's 55th minute Otterbein's Sara Vasbinder got through the Denison defense, drawing out Denison keeper. Vasbinder slipped around her and poked it in for the game's first score.

Denison responded just three minutes later on an impressive score by freshman Maggie Hoskin. From outside the box, Hoskin sailed a shot over the Otterbein keeper's head, bending to just sneak inside the upper corner of the goal. The 25-yarder tied the game at 1-1.

From the start of overtime, the Big Red took the offensive. In a scramble in front of the goal, sophomore Jennifer Clemmer lined a shot off the goalie's hands and Ash followed it up with a shot off the cross bar and into the goal.

Denison keeper Liz Gillette had six saves on the night as the Big Red outshot the Cardinals, 15-7.  Otterbein keeper Tara Carter had five saves.

The Big Red is now 7-1 on the season as the Cardinals drop to 2-3-1. Denison will travel to Pittsburgh, Pa. Saturday afternoon for a 2:30 match up with Carnegie Mellon.
