Denison Players Honored with NSCAA Awards
Denison University senior midfielder Tammy Hoch (left) capped off an outstanding four-year career with the Big Red women's soccer team by earning second-team All-American status by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
This is Hoch's first All-America award and her first All-Great Lakes Region citation. She led Denison in scoring in 2006 with 11 goals and one assist. Hoch started 79 of her 82 career matches played and netted 27 goals over the course of her four years in Granville. She was a first-team All-North Coast Athletic Conference selection in 2006 and was a second-team All-NCAC pick in 2004 and 2005.
Hoch is the 13th women's soccer player from Denison to earn All-America honors from the NSCAA. Denison has placed at least one player on the All-America list in each of the past seven seasons.
Earning NSCAA Great Lakes All-Region awards were Hoch, junior defender Kim Cochran (right) and senior midfielder Anne Young (bottom left). Cochran was the NCAC Defensive Player of the Year after anchoring a DU defense that allowed only 11 goals in 22 matches this season. She led the team in assists with six and picked up her second, first-team All-NCAC award this year.
Young is a four-time all-region pick and a four-time all-conference first team selection. In 2006 she scored four goals and had one assist. Over the course of her career she started 66 matches and netted 31 goals and 13 assists.
The Big Red finished the season with a 15-5-2 record and were ranked 22nd in the final NSCAA Division III to-25 coaches poll. For the second consecutive season the Big Red advanced to the NCAA Tournament Sectional (round of 16) before falling to Calvin College, 1-0 in Rochester, N.Y.
