Earlham and Denison Play to Scoreless Tie
It was a battle of attrition on Wednesday night at Barclay-Thomsen Field and the clock proved to be the victor as Earlham and Denison played to a 0-0 tie.
In what was one of the more lopsided ties in recent memory, the ball remained permanently affixed in the DU half of the field. The Quakers were prepared for the potent Denison offense as they stacked up to eight players in their defense, lining them up like a picket fence that the Big Red just couldn't seem to break through.
Denison took an amazing 43 total shots with 22 shots resulting in saves by the Quakers. Earlham goalkeeper Casie Byrd turned in an outstanding performance with a 20 save effort. Denison had a number of excellent chances to score on the night but one of the best came in the 105th minute when Anne Young crossed the ball to Julie Dean who took a shot from just inside the 18 and sent the ball off the crossbar.
Earlham College took just two shots on the night and did not have a shot on goal. DU finished with 11 corner kicks to Earlham's one.
Denison (12-3-1, 4-2-1 NCAC) still remains in position to advance to the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament next Wednesday. They will close out regular season play on Saturday when they travel to Hiram College.
