Denison Continues Offensive Barrage against John Carroll

In 24 matches in 2005 the Big Red scored 44 goals and advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals posting a stellar 16-4-4 record. Through just six matches in 2006 the Big Red have scored over half the amount totaled all of last season and show no signs of slowing down.

On Wednesday night Denison took a 2-0 first half lead and dropped in three second half goals en route to a 5-1 victory over John Carroll University at Barclay-Thomsen Field.

Denison junior Jessie Birdwhistell got Denison on the board first when Lauren Going assisted the goal from a cross to the center of the pitch. The match's second goal would come off the foot of Going in the 18th minute. It was assisted by freshman Laura Kuehn. After the halftime intermission Kuehn scored her first collegiate goal off another assist by Going.

Five minutes later John Carroll nixed the shutout when Natalie Bernart scored off a direct kick. Megan Pike got in the scoring column in the 75th minute when Kim Cochran found her in front of the goal off a follow-up. Sophomore Sarah Ash knocked in Denison's final goal of the night in the 83rd minute when she found the back of the net off a rebounded corner kick.

Denison outshot JCU 22-2 and outcornered the Blue Streaks 11-2. Ash led Denison in shot attempts with five.

On the year Denison has now outscored their opponents 27-3 and has outshot them 138-37.
