Denison Still Unbeaten After West Coast Swing
The Big Red women's soccer team poted their third shutout of the season and made sure their trip to southern California was a successful one by defeating University of the Redlands, 2-0 on Sunday.
On Saturday DU topped Pomona-Pitzer 6-0 and returned with a solid outing Sunday against Redlands to move to 5-0 on the season.
The match was scoreless until sophomore Jessie Birdwhistell knocked a shot past Redlands keeper Lindsey Fish from the left side to give Denison a 1-0 advantage. This was Birdwhistell's second goal over the California trip and her third of the season.
In the 61st minute Lisa Nowack came off the bench for an unassisted goal giving the Big Red a little breathing room.
Junior goalkeeper Liz Gillette played well in goal, notching five saves while earning her second shutout of the season.
Denison, ranked sixth in the NSCAA Division III top-25 Coaches Poll, will host John Carroll on Wednesday, Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. at Barclay-Thomsen Field.
