Denison Shuts Out Olivet

The eighth ranked Denison University women's soccer team rolled to a 6-0 victory on Saturday against Olivet College at the annual Big Red/Battling Bishop Invitational hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University.

Denison scored four goals in the opening 22 minutes of play to put the contest out of reach early on. Kim Cochran netted the game's first goal in the 13th minute via a header off a corner kick by Kristen Matthews. A second Matthews corner kick exactly two minutes later would find senior midfielder Tammy Hoch for her first goal of the season and the 17th of her career. At the 19:45 mark Sarah Ash controlled a loose ball off another corner kick and scored, putting Denison up 3-0.

Sophomore Lauren Going tallied the fourth goal off a cross from Laryn Kovalik. That would be all of the scoring until the 79th minute when first-year Anna Rusch notched her first collegiate goal off an assist from Kovalik. Angela Pitstick rounded out the match with a goal 23 seconds before the final buzzer.

Amidst all of the scoring the Denison defense clamped down and held the Comets without a shot attempt. Denison took 29 shot attempts, 17 of which were on goal. They also attempted 10 corner kicks.

Going led all Denison players with six shots while Hoch finished with five. Denison will return to Delaware on Sunday to face Guilford at 11 a.m.
