
Big Second Half Pushes Big Red Past Oberlin

October 5, 2005: Four second half goals sent the sixth ranked Denison women’s soccer team past host Oberlin College on Wednesday afternoon.
The Yeowomen fought off a furious charge mounted by the Big Red in the early goings. DU attempted 19 of their 24 shots in the opening 45 minutes but Oberlin goalkeeper Kathleen Keating was up to the task, going to the intermission with nine of her game-high 11 saves.
In the second half DU broke through quickly as first-year Maureen Young (upper left) scored via an unassisted goal in the 47th minute. With 19 minutes left in regulation senior Colleen Wirtz (lower right) put Denison up 2-0 with a goal that was assisted by Jessie Birdwhistell. Five minutes later Megan Rounseville (upper right) would answer with her second goal of the year. It was assisted by Wirtz.

Denison’s final score would come off the foot of Meghan Polovick (lower left), assisted by Rounseville.
Denison outshot Oberlin 24-3 and took seven corner kicks. Liz Gillette picked up her seventh shutout of the season and Denison improved to 8-2-1 overall and 2-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Oberlin falls to 5-6-1 overall. The win marked Denison's sixth shutout victory of the season. The Big Red will host Hiram College on Saturday at 1 p.m
