Big Red Blanks John Carroll

September 14, 2005: The 6th ranked Big Red women’s soccer team scored two minutes before intermission and made the goal stand up as Denison topped a feisty John Carroll squad, 1-0 in Cleveland on Wednesday evening.
Sophomore Kim Cochran scored the game’s only goal in the 43rd minute when she headed a corner kick by first-year Ashley Fairhurst into the upper left corner of the net, past JCU goalkeeper Karen Moebius. The goal was Cochran’s second of the season.
Moebius had a busy night between the pipes for the Blue Streaks. She finished with 12 saves while facing 15 shots by the Big Red. Cochran and first-year Lauren Going led the team with three shots apiece. DU goalkeeper Liz Gillette finished with three saves while facing five John Carroll shot attempts.
The win is Denison’s fifth of the season and sets the stage for a weekend showdown with #5 Washington University in St. Louis. The Big Red will face the Bears on Sunday at 11 a.m.
