Denison Dominates Capital at Crew Stadium

September 11, 2005: Playing on the well manicured pitch of Columbus Crew Stadium, the Big Red gave their opponent, Capital University little hope for an upset as the Big Red cruised to a 4-0 victory at the Central Ohio Soccer Showcase on Sunday morning.

Angela PitstickSarah AshOn Saturday, the Crusaders gave nationally ranked Ohio Wesleyan a run for their money before falling to the Bishops, 5-3. Today, there was no such drama. The Big Red saw to that when first-year Sarah Ash scored in the fourth minute off an assist by Colleen Wirtz. The score remained 1-0 until the 44th minute when Angela Pitstick scored off a rebound in the box.

In the second half first-year Maureen Young netted her first goal of her young career off an assist from Lauren Going. Wirtz would add the game’s fourth goal in the 74th minute when she used some fancy footwork at the top of the box to beat her defender and slip the ball past Capital goalkeeper Courtney Allan.

Denison took 19 shots compared to six for the Crusaders. Ash led the team with six shots. Young and Tammy Hoch both took three shots apiece. DU goalkeeper Liz Gillette had two saves while Allan had eight saves for the Crusaders.

Denison improves to 4-1 on the year and will travel to John Carroll on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. match with the Blue Streaks.
